About Ana
Usually covered in paint, always covered in dog hair… but make it art.
That about sums it up!
Hi! I’m Ana Calomino, an artist based in Kansas City, creating bold, layered work that doesn’t whisper (what can I say… I’m Italian for cryin’ out loud). I use acrylics, plaster, and mixed media to build pieces with texture, contrast, and attitude. Think clean lines, loud color, vintage references, and texture that makes you want to lean in. Capiche?
“The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.”
— Pablo Picasso
my style
My work lives in the space between eras, vintage soul with a modern edge. I’m drawn to the bold visual language of the past: the drama of old Hollywood, the grit of retro signage, the energy of ‘60s and ‘70s rock. But I rework those references through a contemporary lens..stripping them down, rebuilding them with layered texture, unexpected palettes, and stylized composition.
I use acrylics, plaster, and mixed media to create pieces that feel lived-in, cinematic, and emotionally charged. My paintings don’t aim for realism, they aim for presence. They’re meant to stop you, draw you closer, and leave an impression long after you’ve walked away.
This is modern-vintage, reimagined: not nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake, but a deeper reflection on influence, identity, and how style becomes story

HOW I got here
Art was always around me growing up. I come from a creative household where I spent a lot of time in a basement studio with ‘60s and ’70s rock always playing. Think: Hendrix, Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, The Stones, etc. That era of music taught me rhythm, form, and how to let energy unfold with intention. That early exposure gave me foundation in structure, but the real lessons came later.
The heart behind everything I do comes from my mom. She’s the reason I create with purpose. She taught me resilience, intuition, and how to build something from scratch…gracefully, and with grit.
I started doodling in my free time, never expecting anything from it…until one day, someone asked to buy a piece. That turned into over ten years of commission work: portraits, murals, logos, gifts. I spent a decade creating for others, learning how to make art that connected.
Then, I finally gave myself permission to create for me. My first personal series, ‘Primary’, was loud, emotional, and bold. Then came ‘Lucky’, a stylized, moody nod to vintage casino energy. Now I’m building ‘Legends’, a collection that celebrates influence, identity, and legacy.I have many more coming. The well runs deep.
What started as a side hobby became something I could stand behind. I don’t just paint, I translate feeling into form, texture, and story.
And while creativity may run in the family, what I’ve built from it is entirely my own.
Meet Wrigley
THE STUDIO ASSISTANT
Wrigley is my 130 lb golden retriever.Yes,he is 100% golden,I had him DNA checked. He’s never far from the action, usually supervising from under the easel or gently rolling a tennis ball into frame mid-brushstroke.
If you happen to find a stray blonde hair in your painting—don’t worry. That’s not a flaw. That’s a signature. You’re basically getting a two-for-one.
Truly, a great deal.
WHEre I’m Headed
I’m here to keep evolving…creatively, professionally, and intentionally. I want my work in homes, galleries, restaurants, hotel lobbies, and anywhere people go to feel something. My art is made to live out loud, start conversations, and hold presence in a space.
I’m open to collaborations, commissions, live painting events, artwork rentals, and creative partnerships that push the boundary of where art belongs.
This isn’t just canvas and color. It’s storytelling. It’s energy. It’s building a world, one bold piece at a time..
